Katie Mamakos
Role: Poolside elder, store lead, and robot repair maiden
Location: Originally from Miami, Florida — now a proud local for 15 years
If you’ve ever walked into Poolside of the Carolinas and been greeted by someone who seems to know everything about pools, robots, and spinach artichoke dip, chances are you’ve met Katie Mamakos. As our beloved “Poolside elder,” Katie brings wisdom, wit, and a whole lot of heart to everything she does.
Katie joined the pool and outdoor living industry simply looking for a job — but her curiosity and love of learning quickly turned that job into a passion. She’s now a go-to expert for customers and coworkers alike, especially when it comes to robot repairs and pool chemistry. Her favorite part of the job? Helping customers feel empowered and informed. “People think I’m smart,” she jokes, “but really, I just love seeing folks learn something new that helps them care for their pool.”
Her favorite memories include the time a customer strapped an entire pump and filter system to the back of his Mercedes Benz to bring it in for us to “take a look”, and those bustling summer Saturdays when the store is packed, the team is thriving, and the sun is shining. Katie thrives in the warmth of summer — both literally and figuratively — and describes Poolside in three perfect words: “The problem solvers.”
Outside of work, Katie is a creative soul who enjoys painting, gardening, and spending time with her son. Her dream backyard would be a whimsical wonderland of ponds, waterfalls, fairy gardens, fruit trees, and twinkling lights. She’s also a proud cat mom to Delia, Monoe, and Mila — though she secretly prefers dogs.
Whether she’s sipping iced green tea, sharing pool tips (like the truth about salt systems), or imagining a poolside chat with Stephen King, Katie brings a unique blend of humor, insight, and heart to our team. We’re lucky to have her!
Harmonie Wescott
Water Chemist & Dolphin Mechanic | Poolside of the Carolinas
If you’ve ever wondered who keeps your pool sparkling and your robotic cleaner running like a dream, meet Harmonie Wescott—our resident water chemist and Dolphin mechanic extraordinaire. Originally from Los Angeles, Harmonie’s journey has taken her through Indianapolis and now to North Carolina, where she’s been a vital part of the Poolside family for the past year.
Harmonie didn’t plan on joining the pool and outdoor living industry—it found her through a former coworker’s invitation. Since then, she’s discovered a deep satisfaction in helping customers achieve picture-perfect pools. Her favorite part of the job? Seeing the transformation and knowing she played a part in it.
She’s not just a pool pro—Harmonie brings creativity and flair to everything she does. From painting store window ads to rescuing a kitten on the job, her days are never dull. And when she’s off the clock, you might find her twirling a fire baton, sketching something artistic, or reminiscing about her time singing in a rock band. Oh, and she knows basic sign language too!
Her dream backyard? Think treehouse, patio, pool, hot tub, grill, and garden—a true oasis. Her go-to poolside vibe includes Dr Pepper, cookies, watermelon, and a playlist that spans every genre. If she could invite anyone to join her for a poolside evening, it’d be Jennifer Aniston. And when asked to choose between summer or fall? “Summer…duh!”
Harmonie describes Poolside of the Carolinas as “family-oriented, honest, and trustworthy,” and she values the personal touch that comes with working for a small local business. Her tip for spa owners: don’t forget that spa water goes stale after 90 days—and yes, pool chemicals are a whole different ballgame.

Rhonda Kernodle
Retail Store Lead | Poolside of the Carolinas
Rhonda Kernodle joined Poolside of the Carolinas in July 2025, but her connection to the store goes back much further—she was a loyal customer for years before stepping into her current role as Retail Store Lead. Inspired by the helpfulness of the staff, Rhonda wanted to offer the same warm, knowledgeable service to others. Now, she’s doing just that—helping customers balance their pools and hot tubs while making their backyard dreams come true.
Originally from Efland, where she’s lived for 56 years, Rhonda brings a deep sense of community and care to everything she does. Her favorite part of the job? Seeing customers light up when their pool visions become reality. She’s also known for sharing her delicious baked goods with coworkers, a sweet reflection of her generous spirit.
When she’s not at Poolside, Rhonda enjoys spending time with her family, bowling with her grandkids at Buffalo Lanes, and relaxing with her two beloved Yorkie pups. She’s a proud graduate, having earned her BS degree at age 55—a testament to her determination and drive.
Rhonda’s dream backyard would definitely include a hot tub, beach music playing in the background, and maybe even a visit from Tom Selleck (because, in her words, “he is total fine!”). Her go-to Poolside snack? Donuts and a Gatorade G2—fuel for her sunny, summer-loving energy.
In three words, Rhonda describes Poolside of the Carolinas as “knowledgeable, friendly, fun.” And we couldn’t agree more—especially when she’s around. Her passion for customer service, love for her team, and dedication to weekly pool upkeep make her a true standout.
